Obiettivi formativi
- la rappresentazione digitale dell’informazione;
- le caratteristiche delle parti fondamentale di un computer, sia in termini di hardware che in termini di software;
- i concetti fondamentali delle reti;
The aim of the course is to introduce the following topics:
- the digital representation of information;
- the characteristics of the principal components of a computer, both in terms of hardware and software;
- the key concepts of computer networks;
- the use of application programs to increase users’ efficiency and effectiveness in a wide number of contexts, including at university and in the workplace.

Risultati dell'apprendimento attesi
- di avere compreso la maniera in cui vari tipi di informazione vengono rappresentati e memorizzati;
- di avere assimilato le caratteristiche principali dell’hardware, del software di base e delle reti;
At the end of the course, the students will be able to use the knowledge in order to understand and evaluate the characteristics of computers, and to use a number of the most commonly-used application programs.
The students will be able to show that:
- they understand the way in which diverse types of information can be represented and stored by a computer;
- they understand the key characteristics of hardware, operating systems and computer networks;
- they are able to use the most important functions of a number of application programs.

The course consists both of lectures and of laboratory classes. The topics of digital representation of information, hardware, software and networks will be considered during the lectures. Instead the laboratory classes will be focused on the use of the considered application programs.

The students will be evaluated with a written examination and an oral examination.
The written examination will be valid for the entire examination session.
The written examination regards the conceptual/theoretical topics of the course, whereas the oral examination concerns principally the use of the application programs considered in the course. The combination of the two exams allows the students to show their knowledge of fundamental concepts such as the representation of information, the components of a computer and networks, and also of the way in which application programs can be used to increase their users’ efficiency and effectiveness.
